Ascend Elements: Bringing sustainable closed loop recycling to the Li-ion battery industry

Li-ion batteries are powering the future, but to ensure that future is sustainable Ascend Elements has created a novel closed loop recycling process, recovering high value battery components for reuse without the need to reprocess raw materials. They are extending the life cycle of each battery to ensure efficient sustainable usage for a greener tomorrow that still meets the power demands of human progress.

“If you are trying to create a circular economy, there are many stakeholders in that circle, and they all need to work together and collaborate. This is how we get to a sustainable society. TDK Ventures’ early support and collaboration allowed us to further expand our team, develop our capabilities and march toward commercialization of closed-loop battery materials.”

Mining, Recycling Must Keep Pace with EV Demand, Panelists Agree

Electric vehicles are on the cusp of revolutionizing the worldwide transportation industry – and Ascend Elements, formerly known as Battery Resourcers, is a key driving force in EV sustainability. Only by making lithium collection and freighting more efficient, reducing the amount of scrap gigafactories generate, and safely salvaging recyclable material from end-of-life batteries can the industry fulfill its environmental and sustainability promises.

Why We Invested in Ascend Elements to Accelerate our Vision for Sustainable Energy Transformation

In our research, we quickly learned how pivotal a role lithium-ion batteries have served to accelerate global electrification and change the way we use and tap into energy — we also learned how rare the material components of Li-ion batteries were (are). What followed as a company, was to dedicate our time to Li-ion battery recycling as one of Our Deep Explorations, and in early 2020, we found one of our answers in Ascend Elements (then known as Battery Resourcers).
