MEET Shashwath
Shashwath Bharadwaj joins TDK Ventures as a Portfolio Program Associate on the Engagement Team. He brings a unique blend of deep-tech expertise and operational experience, with a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Boston University focused on next-generation imaging technologies. His research pioneered the first methods for imaging with superconducting nanowires, enabling advances in deep-space optical communications and medical imaging systems.
Prior to joining TDK Ventures, Shashwath worked on single-photon imaging technologies for applications in autonomous vehicles, AR/VR, and metasurface lidar at companies including Meta Reality Labs and Lumotive. His work has been featured at leading technical conferences including CVPR, ICCV, and CLEO, and he also holds a U.S. patent related to scalable quantum random number generators.
Beyond his technical background, Shashwath is passionate about building programs that create impact at scale. He has held leadership roles across SPIE, Optica, and IEEE, leading initiatives that supported more than 2,000 students and early-career professionals across 165 countries. He has also advocated for the National Photonics Initiative and National Quantum Initiative through meetings with congressional offices on Capitol Hill.
Outside of work, Shashwath enjoys classical music, has an unhealthy obsession with chess, and possesses the unusual ability to clap with a single hand — which he is always happy to demonstrate to the curious.
