You’ll work alongside kind, curious, and mission-driven colleagues who value diverse perspectives and strive to make a difference. Your role will focus on emerging technologies in advanced materials, critical minerals & processing, battery & energy storage systems, and power conversion for digital infrastructure. You’ll have opportunities to explore new ideas, develop insights, and build convictions that help shape the future of deeptech innovation.

  • Conduct deep-dive research on markets and technologies in electrification and industrial decarbonization to identify strategic opportunity spaces and promising startups
  • Contribute to building trusted relationships with co-investors, entrepreneurs, and innovation partners
  • Help manage deal flow and organize insights in our CRM, tracking founder interactions and next step
  • Prepare thoughtful investment proposals, internal briefings, diligence materials and project reviews
  • Engage in due diligence for startups including financial modeling, market analysis, IP and technology assessment, and reference calls
  • Partner with colleagues across teams to support communication and coordination with startups and TDK stakeholders
  • Collaborate in writing compelling investment memos and presentations for internal decision-making and thought leadership
  • Support our portfolio companies with meaningful post-investment engagement, from reporting and internal updates to strategic connections and resource sharing

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience in industry, a startup, venture capital, private equity, consulting, investment banking, or a related field.
  • Technical degree required; an advanced degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field (PhDs welcome).
  • Relevant technical experience in areas such as advanced materials, battery and energy storage systems, energy systems, power electronics, or digital infrastructure.
  • Developing investment judgment and business acumen, with the ability to evaluate opportunities, understand how technologies are commercialized, and assess what it takes for companies to scale.
  • Fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese, with the ability to communicate complex technical and business topics effectively in both languages.
  • An effective and credible communicator who builds trusted relationships with founders, co-investors, TDK colleagues, and other ecosystem partners, demonstrating sound judgment, a strong work ethic, and personal integrity.
  • Curious, proactive, and highly organized, with the ability to thoughtfully synthesize complex technical, market, and financial information into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Passionate about supporting entrepreneurs developing energy and climate technologies that can create meaningful, positive impact.
  • Fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese, with the ability to communicate complex technical and business topics effectively in both languages.

Compensation

This position is based in San Jose, CA or Boston, MA and the annual base pay range for this role is between USD $105,000 and $130,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as education, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, work location, market demands, etc. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified at the Companies discretion. The role may also be eligible for variable bonus programs and incentives.
