Startup Liaison (TDK INTERNAL)

TDK Ventures is looking for a TDK team member to join our team as Startup Liaison Tokyo, serving as a key bridge between TDK Ventures, TDK business groups, and the global startup ecosystem. This role is designed for a technically credible and highly collaborative leader who is passionate about emerging technologies, corporate innovation, and helping transform early-stage startup relationships into meaningful strategic value for both TDK and entrepreneurs. This is a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of deep technology, venture capital, and global business collaboration while working closely with one of the world’s leading Corporate Venture Capital teams.

Responsibilities

The Startup Liaison will ensure TDK Ventures brings consistent, visible and appreciated value to portfolio companies. You will continuously explore and identify potential mutual value creation scenarios (TDK Goodness and Synergies) with TDK teams around the world to further collaborations with TDK Ventures portfolio and non-portfolio companies.

  • Continuously explore new opportunities to delight entrpreneurs by bringing new TDK Goodness with TDK teams to grow our partnership with our Portfolio Companies
  • Pro-actively promote Portfolio Companies solutions across TDK teams to drive wider engagement
  • Assess which startups not considered for investment should be introduced to which TDK teams, identify potential synergy opportunities to facilitate quality introductions with clear context and goal setting, and track as value is created on both sides
  • Deliver regular presentations inside TDK on synergy projects progress and achievements between these startups we introduced and TDK teams

Qualifications

  • A technical degree is required (advanced degree or PhD preferred) Electrical or Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or similar technology related field
  • 10+ years’ experience in a hard-tech technology discipline, venture investment experience a plus
  • Ability to understand TDK’s various technologies, strategy, value proposition and understand Startup technology, strategy, value proposition
  • Experience working with both startup ecosystems and large corporate entities
  • Interest in working with early-stage businesses focused on material science, energy/power, biomedical, and related areas typically underrepresented in venture capital portfolios
  • Experience in Business Development, Strategy & Project Management
  • Proven ability to establish internal networks and maintain productive business relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast paced environment with multiple teams and functions and across multiple projects and different cultures across the world
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills in Japanese (a must) and English (preferred) languages and ability to articulate insights, concepts and recommendations cogently and concisely
  • Confidence to effectively and respectfully communicate across broad levels of people and functional roles including Startup CEOs, CTOs as well as TDK executives and engineering teams

  • Attention to detail with strong desire to always learn
