Startup Liaison (TDK INTERNAL)

TDK Ventures is seeking a Startup Liaison who will work with the Investment Director and the Investment Team to prepare Investment Committee proposals that clearly articulate the strategic value of potential investments to TDK. The Startup Liaison will analyze target startups, engage relevant TDK business and technical teams to identify and articulate strategic value and potential collaboration opportunities, coordinate internal stakeholder input, and quantify strategic fit and integration pathways. Responsibilities

The Startup Liaison will continuously explore and identify potential mutual value creation scenarios (TDK Goodness and Synergies) with TDK teams around the world to further collaborations with TDK Ventures portfolio and non-portfolio companies.

  • Drive synergy exploration to document potential strategic value of startups being considered for investment in the investment proposal to the Investment Committee.
  • Assess which startups not considered for investment should be introduced to which TDK teams, identify potential synergy opportunities to facilitate quality introductions with clear context and goal setting, and track as value is created on both sides.
  • Support Portfolio Program Team to identify suitable TDK teams for initiating new engagements with portfolio companies as required. Support troubleshooting when engagements encounter obstacles.
  • Leveraging Technical Analyst deliverables, develop and document solid knowledge of TDK’s core competencies, businesses, technology roadmap, partnership requirements, and pain points across TDK teams, to utilize to identify synergistic business development opportunities with portfolio companies and startups.
  • Deliver regular presentations inside TDK on synergy projects progress and achievements between startups we introduced and TDK teams.
  • Drive insightful analysis of NPS Surveys to TDK teams and build a proposed action plan to share during Annual Reflection Week, leading to TDK Ventures processes improvements.
  • Build and refine travel and meeting guidelines to ensure best planning and preparations for effective meetings with TDK teams, including calendar view of important regular TDK meetings.
  • Support Portfolio Program Team and portfolio companies in effectively communicating with TDK Japan team members, including portfolio companies visit to TDK sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred; engineering, business, or strategy-related disciplines would be highly valuable for this role
  • 7+ years of business experience within TDK
  • Ability to understand TDK’s various technologies, strategy, value proposition and understand Startup technology, strategy, value proposition
  • Experience in Business Development, Strategy & Project Management
  • Proven ability to establish internal networks and maintain productive business relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast paced environment with multiple teams and functions and across multiple projects and different cultures across the world
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills in Japanese (a must) and English (a must) languages and ability to articulate insights, concepts and recommendations cogently and concisely
  • Confidence to effectively and respectfully communicate across broad levels of people and functional roles including Startup CEOs, CTOs as well as TDK executives and engineering teams
