Investment Intern (Graduate)

TDK Ventures is seeking a curious, impact-focused person to join our investing team as an Investment Intern. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to purposeful work in venture capital, with a strong focus on semiconductor hardware and related technologies. Areas of focus for this internship could include advanced materials for AI hardware, photonics, power electronics, RF communications, semiconductor packaging and metrology, quantum sensing, and high temperature superconductivity. The role is suited for technical persons who are interested in business with a big picture view of industry and are looking to explore alternative opportunities to academia.

Responsibilities

The Investment Intern will work closely with our investment team, gaining exposure to the entire investment lifecycle, from sourcing and evaluating potential investment opportunities to supporting portfolio companies. This is a collaborative and learning-rich opportunity that will enhance your understanding of the semiconductor industry value chain, venture capital investing, and the deeptech startup ecosystems. This position’s responsibilities will include:

  • Creating market maps, technology, and sector deep dive materials with unique insights in the advanced materials, semiconductor, and AI hardware domains
  • Consolidating sector deep dive insights into coherent and cogent internal presentations for investment thesis generation and targeting potential investments
  • Sourcing, meeting, screening, and investigating deeptech startups and entrepreneurs in the strategic spaces of interest and diligently documenting all interactions and learnings
  • Participating in due diligence including financial modeling, business and incumbent overview, deal structuring, and customer and management reference calls

Qualifications

  • A technical degree is required. Must have an undergraduate degree in a technical field; Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or similar and pursuing an MBA or advanced degree in science, engineering, or a relevant technology discipline.
  • Exposure and/or interest to technologies in one of inorganic semiconductors, advanced packaging, photonics, quantum hardware, or relevant technology.
  • A flexible mindset that can consider both technical and business aspects of venture opportunities.
  • Successful academic and professional track record
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment with limited supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with expertise in PowerPoint or related presentation software
  • Decision-making, time management, and organizational skills
  • Self-starter personality with work ethic and uncompromising integrity

Compensation
