Responsibilities

You’ll work alongside thoughtful, curious, and mission-driven colleagues who value diverse perspectives and strive to make a difference. Your role will focus on emerging technologies in artificial intelligence and machine learning, and you’ll have the chance to explore new ideas, develop insights, and help shape the future of deep-tech innovation.

  • Synthesize comprehensive and cogent startup and technology maps in the digital transformation megatrend, especially AI, GenAI and computing based on thoughtful analysis of relevant market and technology trends reports, with the goal to identify and recommend next strategic spaces in both hardware and software and curated investment opportunities to consider
  • Regularly update lists of current co-investors with insights on their latest activities and investments, as well as of potential sector-based investors who would be suitable partners to co-invest with us in future first or follow-on financing rounds
  • Document relevant and up-to-date information from trusted sources in our CRM related to startups in Strategic Spaces, highlighting key learnings and next steps to consider when appropriate
  • Based on investment priorities identified by Investment Directors, create supporting materials for investment proposals, weekly project reviews, and TDK Ventures Briefings
  • Support Associates and Investment Directors in due diligence activities by assisting with financial modeling, market research, IP analysis, customer calls, and technology reviews
  • Manage deal flow funnel and interactions with entrepreneurs, venture capital partners, other CVC partners, and TDK colleagues
  • Craft presentation materials for investment committee review, articulating thoughtful a thesis and highlighting unique insights that reflect both analytical depth and contextual understanding
  • Contribute in all aspects of due diligence including financial modeling, business and market assessment, deal structuring, and customer and management reference calls
  • Support the firm’s existing investments, including internal reporting, business development opportunities, and follow-on transactions

Qualifications

  • A Technical Degree is Required: Advanced degree in a technical field; Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Physics, Chemistry, or related disciplines
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in private equity, venture capital, consulting, investment banking, or an AI-focused startup or research role
  • Deep curiosity about AI, machine learning, and emerging computing and connectivity standards; ability to assess businesses from silicon to software with a passion for understanding their societal and commercial impact
  • Strong network in AI communities (academic, technical, or startup)
  • Outstanding analytical skills, attention to detail, with a collaborative mindset and self-motivated with ability to articulate ideas in group setting
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment with a proactive, solutions-oriented attitude
  • Excellent written and verbal English language communication skills
  • Skillful and effective decision making, time management, and organizational skills
  • Self-starter who is values-driven, dependable, and collaborative with a strong sense of purpose and personal integrity

Compensation

This position is based in San Jose, CA and the annual base pay range for this role is between USD $105,000 and $130,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as education, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, work location, market demands, etc. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified at the Companies discretion. The role may also be eligible for variable bonus programs and incentives.
