Responsibilities
As an Investment Director, you will play a key role in identifying and supporting transformative technologies that align with global megatrends, particularly in AI, advanced computing, and connectivity. Your expertise, strategic mindset, and ability to build strong relationships will drive investment decisions that create both financial and strategic value. Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:
- Shaping Investment Strategy – Conduct in-depth research and develop investment theses that align with TDK’s long-term vision. Work closely with business groups to identify opportunities that drive innovation and competitive advantage.
- Building Strong Industry Connections – Expand and nurture a global network within the venture and startup ecosystem, building trusted partnerships with entrepreneurs, co-investors, and thought leaders to source high-quality investment opportunities.
- Leading Rigorous Investment Decisions – Drive due diligence efforts in AI, GenAI, and advanced computing, assessing market opportunities, product value propositions, business models, and technology roadmaps. Foster an open, collaborative decision-making process that values diverse perspectives.
- Supporting Portfolio Growth – Act as a trusted advisor to portfolio companies, helping founders navigate growth challenges, unlock strategic partnerships, and maximize long-term impact.
- Elevating Thought Leadership – Represent TDK Ventures at industry events and contribute to the broader conversation on deep-tech, entrepreneurship, and corporate venturing through speaking engagements and thought leadership content.
Qualifications
We are looking for a strategic, driven, and collaborative leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical expertise, investment acumen, and relationship-building skills to help identify and support groundbreaking companies. The ideal candidate will have:
- Advanced degree in Sciences, Computer Science/Engineering, AI/Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Computational Neuroscience, or related fields (PhD preferred).
- 10+ years of venture capital experience, including 3-5 years at the Principal or equivalent level in a respected VC or CVC firm.
- Deep expertise in AI, machine learning, computing, and deep-tech sectors, with experience across startup ecosystems and corporate innovation environments.
- A proven track record of successful investments and exits in high-growth startups.
- Strong industry network within venture capital, startups, and deep tech, particularly in AI and computing.
- A collaborative and strategic leadership style, with the ability to develop and communicate clear investment strategies while fostering team alignment and engagement.
- Strong financial and business acumen, with the ability to analyze, negotiate, and execute on complex investment opportunities.
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to break down complex technical concepts into key insights that drive strategic decision-making.
- Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.

Compensation
This position is based in San Jose, CA and the annual base pay range for this role is between USD $200,000 and $260,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: education, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, work location, market demands, etc. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified at the Companies discretion. The role may also be eligible for variable bonus programs and benefits.
